The rue Jeanne d’Arc (Joan of Arc street) is an old and large street in front of cathedral Sainte Croix d’Orléans. As many main cities in France, Orleans recently decided to build a new tramway to develop its public transportation. This can be understood as modern cities are now willing to ensure efficient and clean transportation network at a reasonable cost (a tramway line can be cheaper than a bus line). But considering that all major cities in France already had their own tramways in the beginning of the XXth century before finally slowly removing them is hard to imagine. For a long time, tramway was considered as an outdated public transportation before becoming a symbol of modernity. These new lines help to give more and more space to pedestrian and to push cars out of historic districts. The above picture would have been hardly taken few years ago.
