Located in north west of Beijing, the summer palace is facing a large lake. The place is a must see. With an amazing boat made of marble, a street along a river which could be presented as a chinese Venecia and high temples with impressive view over the lake, the summer palace suprises most of visitors. Walking quietly around, I had the chance to see for the first time a chinese opera, which was performed in the backyard of a small villa.
The chinese opera is a mistery for foreigners. Coming from the ancient times, this art has today only few connections with the modern China. Dresses, makeups and accessories are colorful and amazing. The slow moves and dance of actresses have something fascinating. Yet, the acute and sharp way of singing breaks the first impression of sweetness.
